California refuses to legalize the recreational use of Cannabis
Among the measures that were voted by U.S. citizens in this day of midterm election of President Obama, Proposition 19 (Prop 19) has often been noticed. This was intended to allow regulation, taxation and legislation of Cannabis in the State of California.
The law concerned the recreational use in adults over 21 years. Medical use is allowed him for many years, and hundreds of thousands of Americans have a prescription for medical use.
Shaken by a prohibitionist campaign very hard to maintain the current law, the defenders of Proposition 19 have not pushed through the proposal by the people of California. Californians have rejected the law in more than 56% (current count).
Proponents of Prop. 19 have defended their project and focusing on the economies and financial resources that would allow regulation and taxation of cannabis.
On the other side advocates of prohibition argued that legalizing cannabis would generate an increase in consumption among young people and problems "Cannabis and driving."
The campaign has intensified over the weeks preceding the elections, the police chief personally involved on the forums, television, internet and even by phone to make an apology ... the prohibition.
Californians have therefore chosen: they do not want to legislate the recreational use of Cannabis.
Include all time that this proposal had the merit to put this issue on the table, to exit and make it a taboo topic public. With a score, however, relatively honorable (46% of votes) advocates of Proposition 19 may have not said their last words.
And you what do you think: Cannabis for recreational use should be legalized? Should we prohibit cannabis to protect the population? Do you distinguish between medical and recreational use?
